Wedding Photography

The only way to revisit the wedding day, other than in dreams, is through the work of a photographer or videographer. Their work alone allows the couple to re-live the wonderful occasion. The most important aspect to planning photography or videography is to have an idea of the memories that will be captured. Then find someone with the right experience and personality to work with.

Finding a good photographer will require more work than simply finding the least expensive package. It is very true that "you get what you pay for" and if the minimum amount is paid it is possible the minimum amount of service will be obtained.

Wedding photography and videography will consume a large portion of the wedding budget. This talent must be booked as soon as possible and at the very least 6 full months to a year before the wedding date (wedding planning timeline). This is particularly important for summer or holiday weddings. It is important to get a head start and do not allow anyone but a professional to capture the big day.

It is important to move quickly but never skip the background check. Reference checking is crucial along with viewing images or prior weddings created by the photographer. Do not rely on the quality of their portfolio which is a collection of the very best photos from many weddings. View one whole wedding from beginning to end. Also contact the Better Business Bureau to find out about possible complaints against the person or company.

A long history of wedding photography is a sign that the person understands their responsibilities. Do not assume that the person brings back up equipment or batteries. Ask because equipment can fail.

When the ceremony and reception location are selected be certain the photographer has easy access to the shots wanted. It is also a good idea to give the photographer a personal space to work out of and to store equipment and extra gear. Close to the music is a good choice.

When selecting a photographer or videographer take time to discuss the types of pictures to be taken and of whom. Know if the person will develop the pictures and assemble them into an album or whether the negatives and CD will be provided. In the latter case the album will be assembled by the purchaser which is fine also.

Advance planning is crucial. Enjoy the day knowing someone reliable is out there capturing all the special moments that will last a lifetime.
